ACF supports, provides and manages a number of educational programs, courses and trainings in the Zawiya Ahansal region.
Leadership Capacity Building
ACF continuously works with the board of the local Association Amezray SMNID on management and leadership skills. In 2013, ACF will begin teaching English to the region’s leaders.
Computer Training
ACF holds annual weeklong computer trainings for locals in partnership with French students from Montana State University and SMNID. This training focuses on beginner through advanced skills in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word and Internet.
Wilderness First Responder/Aid Training
In partnership with Aerie Backcountry medicine, ACF holds an annual wilderness medical training course for residents of Zawiya Ahansal. In 2012, the course trained four Moroccan licensed mountain guides and ACF’s in-country staff. In 2013, the course will be tailored for a large group of the general population. The skills learned in this course have made its participants some of the most skilled medical professionals in the region. These courses are taught in Arabic, Berber and English.
Elementary School Tutoring Program
ACF implemented an elementary school tutoring program in the spring of 2012 in partnership with the Iqra Fund. This program serves 40 to 50 students in the villages of Aguddim and Amezray. The tutor works directly with the Moroccan government teachers in order to align the classes with lessons that supplement the public school system and will boost the students’ test scores.
Girls Scholarship Program
ACF has been working with the Iqra Fund and association Amezray SMNID to develop a girls scholarship program that will send girls on to secondary school.
